Shook Road Bridge Closes

MCDOR shuts down bridge over 94 for safety concerns.

Commuters, almost 12,000 of them who travel Shook Road daily will have to find an alternative route as of Friday morning.

That’s because Macomb County Department of Roads has closed the bridge over Interstate 94 noting they no longer could be certain the bridge was safe for traffic.

In a press release, the department stated the bridge would be designed over the winter with re-construction slated for the spring or summer of 2016.

“It’s in worse condition than we thought,” Robert Hoepfner, director of the Macomb County Department of Roads told the Macomb Daily. “We need to close it.”

The Shook Road bridge is one of over two dozen in Macomb County to be deemed “structurally deficient,” according to the Macomb Daily report.
