St. Clair Shores Becomes Soccertown During the Waterfront Invitational
Hundreds of soccer players, and their families, are taking part in the St. Clair Shores Waterfront Invitational tournament through Sunday.
Soccer teams from across Michigan and Canada have descended on the city this weekend for the annual St. Clair Shores Waterfront Invitational.
The tournament features over 100 teams from under-8 to under under-19 and will bring in over 1,800 players and 6,000 families into the city during the weekend, according to organizers.
Fans of soccer can watch the games being played throughout the Shores at Kyte Monroe, Lakeview High School, Civic South Fields, South Lake High School and Kennedy Middle School.
In addition to providing a tournament with a high-level of competition, there is also a charity component to event. Organizers annual make a donation to the St. Clair Shores Special Needs Program. Since the inception of the tournament in 1998, more than $60,000 has been donated to the program, according to Dan DeSantis, tournament chairman.
