St. Clair Shores Hosts Aqua Freeze Festival This Weekend

The annual event at Blossom Heath Park will include ice sculpture and a polar plunge.

St. Clair Shores is getting ready for Aqua Freeze Festival. The annual event takes place Feb. 17 and 18 at Blossom Heath Park. This year’s theme is “Once Upon a Time.” Events this weekend include live bands, a sledding hill, a petting zoo, ice sculpture gardens, kids crafts, horse and carriage rides and many fun dining options. Aqua Fest may take place outdoors, but there’s a heated tent, so no need to brave cold temps and snow. There will local vendors, eat offering food, and DJ tunes by Outrageous Jams.

Sunday, Feb 18th at 2 p.m., there will be a polar plunge, and anyone interested in braving some seriously cold water can sign you on the Aqua Freeze website. There’s a waiver there, too, which makes sense, given the inadvisability of swimming outside in Michigan in February. The waiver reads, in part, “I fully understand that this involves jumping or running into the cold water of Lake St Clair, under February winter weather conditions and that there are health and safety risks associated with this type of activity. I, therefore, assume all risk of injury and/or death associated with this event.”

Aqua Freeze 2018 takes place Saturday, Feb. 17 rom 9 a.m. til 10 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 18 from 9 a.m. til 5 p.m. For more information, visit Aqua Freeze Festival online.
