St. Clair Shores Resident Named CIO of the Year

Sandy Jurek has been named Chief Information Officer of the Year by Crain's Detroit Business.

St. Clair Shores resident, and Macomb County chief information officer,Β Sandy Jurek has been named CIO of the year by Crain's Detroit Business.

Jurek, who joined Macomb County in August 2012 after the CIO position was vacant for nearly two years, reorganized the information technologyΒ department earlier this year. Just two weeks after theΒ reorganization, a fire in theΒ Old County Building that displaced her staff and disabled the county’s communications and technology infrastructure, according to Macomb County.

β€œSandy has had a positive impact on our County since day one,” said Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel, said in a release. β€œShe hit the ground running last August and hasn’t slowed down since. We are very fortunate to have her on our team.” 

In addition to relocating her department, Jurek has been working onΒ a new Technology Strategic Plan for the county. This report willΒ illustrate potential cost savings and growth opportunities, according to the county.

β€œThis is the way we start to understand how the needs of the County can be met with common, creative solutions that will deliver both quality and value,” said Jurek, in a release. β€œNot only do we need to uphold the highest accountability standards, we also have to be able to communicate the value of technology as a real service to the larger County community.”

She will be honored Oct. 2 by Crain's.
