St. Clair Shores Runner Thought Boston Marathon Explosions Were "Fireworks"

John Cook was on the expressway driving home after completing the Boston Marathon Monday when he heard what he thought were fireworks, but were actually the explosions at the finish line.

John Cook had just completed his first Boston Marathon, and was on his way home, when he heard what he thought were "fireworks from the baseball game."

But it wasn't for a few minutes, when he was about five miles outside of the city, that he heard over the radio that there was an explosion.

While he was safe there was one runner from his group, GP Runners, who was still on the course. She was safe, but unable to finish the race he called the "pinnacle of the pinnacle."

"In order to run the Boston Marathon, you have to qualify," said Cook, 29, who owns Post Rehab and Personal Training in St. Clair Shores. "It was something on your bucket list."

Despite the incident, he plans on running in 2014 if he qualifies for the marathon.
