The Michigan Wolverines capped their college football season with a sweet, 23-20 victory over Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on Tuesday night.

With the victory, U-M finished the 2011-12 campaign with an 11-2 record. This year’s Wolverines became the fifth team in school history to record an 11-win season.

Michael Rosenberg of the Detroit Free Press said that this was a special U-M team. Bob Wojnowski of the Detroit News said the Sugar Bowl triumph was a fitting end to the Wolverines’ season, and Kyle Meinke of annarbor.com wrote that the players got a kick out of the Sugar Bowl.

While Michigan achieved much in the first season under Brady Hoke, Bill Bender of the Sporting News said that now Hoke must maintain those high standards at U-M.
