Melted Ice Sends Hockey Tournament Out of Trenton
Ice rinks at the Kennedy Recreation Center in Trenton were melted Friday morning forcing staff to cancel a women's Tier 1 AAA Elite Hockey Tournament.
When Tim Beaker, operations manager at Kennedy Recreation Center, got to work Friday morning things were not cool. Things were not cool at all.
A cooling tower located on the roof malfunctioned over night, which caused most of the ice on at least two rinks to melt.
The lack of ice forced Beaker to send a women's hockey tournament to the Ice Box in Brownstown Township. Teams from the Tier 1 AAA Elite Hockey League from cities as far away as Chicago, IL, Milwaukee, WI, Pittsburgh, PA and St. Louis, MO left Kennedy without so much as a single puck drop.

The loss of business is expected to set the City of Trenton back about $1,000 in ice rentals and potential concession stand revenue, according to Beaker.
Beaker said the problem is fixed and the ice is getting back to normal. The ice is expected to be frozen and ready for ice skates by 4 p.m. Friday.
