Local Judge's Drug Court Receives $45,000 in State Funding

A local judge's idea to help repeat offenders of drug and alcohol offenses has grown larger than ever and recently received the most funding in the history of the program.

While other similar programs are losing funding, Judge Michael McNally's program at the 33rd District Court in Woodhaven received $45,000 in funding from the Michigan Drug Court Grant Program on Sept. 17.

The funding received for fiscal year 2012-13 was about $9,000 more than in 2011-12.

In 2007, McNally created Sobriety Court to help stop repeat offenders of alcohol and drug offenses by doing more than simply handing out stiffer penalties.

The program has relied on grant funding since its inception.
