Amazon Is Coming To Troy

Online retail giant Amazon will be opening a warehouse in Troy.

TROY, MI β€” Amazon’s Michigan footprint appears to be growing and coming to Troy. The online retailer is converting a Chicago Road building to a 26,000-square foot warehouse, according to a building permit recently filed with the city. Amazon is not commenting on its plans and there’s no indication of how many people will be employed at the facility.

The permit expires in December, said Glenn Lapin, economic development specialist for the city. A document filed with the building department shows that the retailer expects to store about 20,000 items there. It's not known how many people will work out of the building.
The Troy warehouse would mark the third recent investment in metro Detroit, though on a smaller scale. On Tuesday, the Michigan Strategic Fund approved a $5 million grant for the company to create a $140 million package fulfillment center on 84 acres north of Detroit Metropolitan Airport, creating at least 1,600 new jobs in the 855,000-square-foot facility, which is expected to be open before fall 2018.
