Northminster Presbyterian Church in Troy Starts Holy Week With Special Taize Service

On Palm Sunday, March 24th at 7 PM, Northminster Presbyterian Church in Troy will begin Holy Week by offering a special Taize worship service for the entire community. The service consists mostly of simple music and contemplative silence and prayer without formal leadership, announcements or a sermon.

Founded after World War II, the Taizé community was formed as an intentional place for peace and reconciliation in the south Burgundy region of France.

After visiting the Taize community, Rev. Sommers has occasionally offered the unique service at Northminster.

“Too often, the mainline churches try to convince people only with words that God loves them and wants the best for them,” says Sommers. “ But really people want to feel it in their very being and many of us have found it through the meditative silence of the Taize service. I am very hopeful that members of our entire community, whatever their beliefs, will join us at this special service.”

March 28, Maundy Thursday, 7 PM Dinner and 7:45 Worship

March 31  Easter, Worship, 10:30 AM
