Drunken Driving, Retail Fraud and More Reported to Troy Police

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Credit, check, identity theft, other fraud

6000 block of Vernmoor, Aug. 20, 12 noon: Resident advised an unauthorized charge was made to his credit card in Dorchester, Massachusetts.Β  Resident stated no one had permission to use his card.

2000 block of Coolidge,Β Aug. 21, 4:58 p.m.: Resident advised unauthorized purchases have been made on her bank card. The purchases were made in Canada and Massachusetts. Resident stated no one had permission to use her account.

Drugs/narcotics

2000 block of Rochester Rd.,Β Aug. 24, 11:53 p.m.: Troy Officers observed a subject behind a closed business and then get into a vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle and the subject advised he was β€œurinating” in the lot. The driver of the vehicle admitted there was marijuana in the car. Officers discovered marijuana under the driver’s seat. The driver, a 20-year-old from Allen Park was issued a citation for possession of marijuana.

Quality Inn, 2357 Rochester Ct.,Β Aug. 25, 12:29 a.m.: Officers were patrolling the parking lot after a complaint of a loud party. Officers observed a vehicle occupied in the lot. The driver told officers he was there to β€œhang out.” Officers detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.Β  The driver, a 17-year-old from Clawson gave officers consent to search his vehicle and a small tin of marijuana was discovered. The driver was issued a citation for possession of marijuana.

Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs

Interstate-75 and Crooks,Β Β Aug. 21,Β 5:06 p.m.: Troy officers were dispatched for a vehicle driving off the road and weaving heavily. Officers located the vehicle and observed the vehicle weaving. The driver had glassy eyes and aroma of intoxicants coming from the vehicle. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .19 percent.

Interstate-75 and West Big Beaver Road,Β Aug. 22, 2:49 a.m.: Troy Officers responded to a possible drunk driver call. Officers located the suspected vehicle and observed it swerving over two lanes of travel. The driver smelled of intoxicants and had bloodshot eyes. The driver, a 29-year-old from Waterford failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated.Β Breath tests results were .09 percent.

West Fourteen Mile Road and John R Road,Β Aug. 24,Β 12:23 a.m.: Troy Officers stopped a vehicle for a tinted windows violation. Officers made contact with the driver and immediately detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver had blood shot glassy eyes and refused to comply with any of the officer’s requests. The driver, a 22-year-old from Sterling Heights was arrested for operating under the influence of drugsΒ and possession of marijuana. When officers searched the vehicle before impounding, they discovered marijuana inside the console of the vehicle. A blood draw was conducted with results pending.

Interstate-75 andΒ Crooks,Β Aug. 24, 11:01 p.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle after observing it swerve out of its lane several times. The driver smelled strongly of intoxicants and had blood shot glassy eyes. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 41-year-old from Eastpointe was arrested for operating while intoxicated.Β Breath test results were .13 percent.

Interstate-75 and Rochester Road, Aug. 25, 1:34 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver smelled strongly of alcohol and had slurred speech. The driver admitted to drinking and failed field sobrieties. The driver, a 34-year-old from Clinton Township was arrested for operating while intoxicated.Β Breath test results were .10 percent.

Rochester and EastΒ Big Beaver Road,Β Aug. 25, 3:36 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle for weaving in its lane. Officers approached the vehicle and detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver had bloodshot glassy eyes. The driver failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs.Β  A blood draw was conducted with results pending.

Coolidge and Maple,Β Aug. 25, 7:39 p.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle after it was witnessed hitting the curb several times. The driver smelled strongly of intoxicants and had slurred speech. The driver, a 35-year-old from Garden City failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .19 percent.

Home invasions

3000 block of Alpine,Β Aug. 24, 1:13 p.m.: Troy officers were dispatched to a home invasion. Resident reported when she exited her bathroom the suspect was standing in her home. Resident advised the suspect to leave and contacted police. Officers located the suspect, a 64-year-old from Troy who appeared to be intoxicated. The suspect was issued a citation for entering without permission.Β β€œ

Larcenies

LA Fitness, 3501 W. Maple Rd., Aug. 22, 7:30 p.m.: Complainant reported she placed her gym bag containing jewelry, watch, ring, necklace and earrings in a locked locker. When complainant returned she discovered her jewelry missing. The value of the missing items $49,000.

Larcenies from autos

Big Beaver Tavern, 671 W. Big Beaver Rd., Aug. 24,Β 11:38 p.m.: Complainant reported he parked his vehicle in the lot and when he returned he discovered his right rear passenger window smashed out. Complainant advised his garage door opener and a cell phone were missing.Β 

Malicious destruction of property

300 W. Big Beaver Rd.,Β Aug. 24, 8 to 11:30 a.m.: Complainant reported she parked her vehicle in the parking lot while she went to work. When complainant returned she discovered her tires were flattened, oil was poured over the vehicle and the gas cap was open.

6000 Redford Circle,Β Aug. 24, 8:23 p.m.: Complainant advised someone shot a BB through a rear window of her residence.

Retail fraudΒ 

Sears, 300 W. Fourteen Mile Rd., Aug. 22, 4:43 p.m.: Loss prevention advised two suspects were observed selecting merchandise and concealing it in shopping bags. The suspects then left the store failing to pay for the merchandise. Loss prevention stopped the suspects, recovering the merchandise valued at $342.98. The suspects, a 19-year-old from Troy and a 21-year-old from Pontiac were arrested for retail fraud.

JCPenney, 700 W. Fourteen Mile Rd., Aug. 22, 4:57 p.m.: Loss prevention advised two suspects were observed selecting merchandise. One suspect selected a pair of jeans and put them on. The other suspect selected socks and concealed them in a shopping bag. The suspects exited the store without paying for the merchandise. Loss prevention stopped the suspects and recovered the merchandise valued at $76. The suspects, both 18-year-old from Detroit were arrested for retail fraud.

Nordstrom, 2850 W Big Beaver Rd, 8/23/13, 1:50 pm: Loss prevention advised two suspects were observed selecting clothing and concealing it in their purses. The suspects then left the store failing to pay for the merchandise. Loss prevention stopped the suspects and recovered the merchandise valued at $140. The suspects, a 17-year-old from Farmington Hills and an 18-year-old from Oxford were arrested for β€œRETAIL FRAUD III.”

Sears, 300 W. Fourteen Mile Rd., Aug. 24,Β 8:19 p.m.: Loss prevention advised the suspect was observed selecting a pair of earrings and place them in his hand. The suspect then left the store without paying for the earrings. Loss prevention stopped the suspect who attempted to flee, however the suspect was apprehended and arrested forΒ retail fraud.Β Total value of the earrings $79.99.

Nordstrom, 2850 W. Big Beaver Rd., Aug. 24,Β 8 p.m.: Loss prevention advised two suspects were observed selecting merchandise and concealing it in their purses. The suspects left the store failing to pay for the concealed merchandise. Loss prevention stopped the suspects and recovered $626.00 worth of merchandise. The suspects, a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old both from Berkley were arrested for retail fraud.

JCPenney, 700 W. Fourteen Mile Rd., Aug. 25, 1:56 p.m.: Loss prevention advised two suspects were observed selecting merchandise and entering the fitting room. When the suspects exited the fitting room they were wearing the merchandise they had selected. The suspects, a 15-year-old from Ferndale and a 17-year-old from Detroit both left the store failing to pay for the merchandise. Loss prevention stopped the suspects and recovered the merchandise. The merchandise was valued at $195. Both suspects were arrested for retail fraud.
