Apple Store Theft Suspects Make A Splash

A pair of suspects tried to steal an expensive item from the W. Big Beaver Apple Store, but were foiled.

TROY, MI β€” A pair of thieves tried to steal more than $600 worth of equipment from the Apple Store on W. Big Beaver Road on Wednesday, according to Troy Police Department reports. A 23-year-old Wyoming woman and a 21-year-old Grand Rapids man entered the store shortly after 5 p.m.

Reports said they put an item valued $679.90 in a foil-lined shopping bag and tried to exit the store. But Apple loss prevention confronted the suspects, who then fled, running through the Somerset Collection. Reports said the woman jumped into the center court fountain and was apprehended by responding Troy officers.

The male suspect ran out of the mall and was apprehended by Troy Police officers as he tried to run across Lakeview Drive. Reports said the foil-lined shopping back was used to get past the store’s anti-theft detectors.

Police also found a pair of wire cutters used to remove anti-theft sensors attached to the business merchandise. The suspects were arrested and charged with Retail Fraud – 1st Degree, Possession of an Anti-Theft Device, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Hinder and Obstruction of a Police Officer.
