Female Cancer Patients Can Look Good, Feel Better in Troy
Women receive free make-up kits and learn beauty techniques to help them cope with the physical side effects of cancer treatment.
Cancer can rob a woman of her energy, appetite and strength, but it doesn’t have to take away her self-confidence.
To help, the American Cancer Society, Professional Beauty Association | National Cosmetology Association and the Personal Care Products Council Foundation are sponsoring Look Good…Feel Better – a free program that teaches beauty techniques to female cancer patients in active treatment to help them combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.
The program will take place March 12 and June 18 from 6-8 p.m. at Pharmacy Advantage (735 John R Road, Suite 150, Troy). All cancer survivors throughout the metro Detroit area are welcome. Pre-registration is required for this free program; contact the American Cancer Society at 800-227-2345.
Trained cosmetologists will teach cancer patients how to cope with skin changes and hair loss by using cosmetics and skin care products donated by the cosmetic industry. The free cosmetic kits are valued at $350 each and are available in light, medium, dark, and extra-dark shades.
Women will learn how to disguise hair loss with wigs, scarves, and other accessories, how to create the impression of having eyebrows or eyelashes, and how to take care of skin damaged by cancer treatments.
“Look Good…Feel Better helps women to realize that they are not alone in their fight against cancer,” said Mitzi Cardona, Health Initiatives Manager for the American Cancer Society. “The overall goal is to reach out and serve women at a very difficult point in their lives and help them with something that’s very practical to regain some control and normalcy in their lives.”
