City Council Votes 4-3 Against Medical Marijuana In Troy
Troy City Council calls marijuana a potential safety threat and votes to opt out of medical marijuana.

During its meeting Feb. 5, Troy City Council, acting on a referral from Council Member Dave Henderson, passed a resolution exercising the Troy’s option to choose not to allow medical marijuana facilities in town. The resolution, seconded by Councilman Ethan Baker, bans medical marijuana facilities in part because Troy “has prohibited the possession and use of marihuana,” and because the council members who drafted the resolution believe marijuana to be a threat to safety.
According to the resolution, the “Troy City Council believes that the potential effects upon its citizens, by the use, sale, cultivation, production, and storage of medical marihuana in a commercial fashion could adversely affect the public safety, health and welfare of its citizens.” The resolution to keep medical marijuana facilities out of Troy passed 4-3 with Henderson and Baker joined by Edna Abrahim and Ellen Hodorek voting in favor and Ed Pennington, Dane Slater and David Hamilton voting against.
