Credit Card Thief Goes Goes On Fast Food Spree: Police

A Troy senior citizen's credit card was stolen, according to police. The thief used the card to charge nearly $70 at fast food restaurants.

TROY, MI — The theft of a Brookdale Assisted Living resident’s credit card led to a fast food shopping spree, according to Troy Police. Nearly $70 worth of food items were purchased with the card over a three-day period in Warren and Detroit.

Police reports said an aide at the facility, which sits south of Long Lake Road and east of Northfield Parkway, noticed the resident’s wallet lying on a bathroom floor. Troy Police police said his credit card and $45 in cash was missing from the wallet.

The fraudulent charges started on Sept. 19 with a $1 purchase at a Hazel Park gas station. That same day, an $8.13 purchase was made at Burger King in Warren and also a $28.72 purchase at Popeye’s in Warren.

On Sept. 20, purchases were made a Detroit Kentucky Fried Chicken for $5.13 and later a $11.10 charge was made at a Wendy’s in Warren. Two Tim Horton’s purchases were made the next day for $4.95 and $9.50.

Troy Police is investigating the theft. Brookdale Troy is an assisted living and memory care facility that serves seniors with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
