The scammer convinced him to download additional apps and send payments before he realized it was fraud and contacted Troy police. Residents are reminded to be cautious with payment apps and unsolicited support numbers.
   

5. Lakewood lender targets Nussbaum's partner over escrow mess (therealdeal.com) — A major New York escrow fraud case now touches Troy, with a title insurer previously involved in a fraudulent transaction here mentioned in new court-focused reporting. While the lawsuit targets attorneys and lenders based out of state, the case underscores how large real estate finance schemes can ripple into Michigan deals, including at least one in Troy, and may influence how future transactions are scrutinized.
