Deputies: Man Confessed To Killing Girlfriend Of 18 Years

According to deputies, the man said he walked to the Sheriff's Department Substation in Pontiac from the crime scene to turn himself in.

OAKLAND COUNTY — A 46-year-old Pontiac man has been charged with open murder after Oakland County Sheriff's deputies said he called the sheriff's office and said he had killed his girlfriend.

Roderick Junior Washington is charged with one count of open murder, two counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony and one count of possessing a firearm, according to deputies. Washington was arraigned Saturday before Oakland County Magistrate Robert Morad, who denied bond, deputies said.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the Pontiac substation following the report of man who had called the office to say he had killed his girlfriend.

Deputies found the man, later identified as Washington, and he told them his girlfriend could be found inside of a vehicle in the 100 block of Osmun Street, deputies said.

Deputies said they found a .357 cal. revolver lying on the ground near Washington. Washington was taken into custody while other officers responded to the area of the 100 block of Osmun Street to locate the vehicle, deputies said.

Deputies said they found a red SUV parked on the side of the street. The passenger side door of the SUV was open and a 43-year-old dead woman leaning outside of the door, deputies said. She appeared to have suffered two gunshot wounds, according to deputies.

An autopsy revealed the victim, a 43-year-old Pontiac woman, died from a gunshot wound to the head, deputies said. After an interview, Washington confessed to shooting his girlfriend of 18 years after a short altercation in her vehicle, deputies said.

Deputies said Washington said he walked to the Pontiac Substation from Osmun Street to turn himself in.
