Got Drugs? Drop Off Discarded Prescription Medications at Troy Police Department
The Troy Police Department will be collecting prescription medications on April 28 as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The has once again partnered with the Drug Enforcement Agency to be a collection site for another National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. This event is to provide a venue for persons who want to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. More than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs, according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Each day, approximately, 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.

Congress has passed legislation amending the Controlled Substances Act to allow the DEA to develop a process for people to safely dispose of their prescription drugs. Until that process is complete, however, DEA will continue to hold Take Back Days every six months.
Prescription pills for disposal can be brought to the Troy Police Lobby located at 500 W Big Beaver between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 to dispose of them under this program. Only dry pills will be taken, so no liquids, sharps or packaging material will be accepted.

The Troy Police Department will continue to participate in the Operation Medicine Cabinet throughout the year, and private citizens can bring unwanted prescription drugs to the Police lobby from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday for disposal. (No medical offices or commercial disposal allowed for Operation Medicine Cabinet)
