Drug Possession, Noise Violation and More Reported to Troy Police

The following information about police incidents is taken directly from the most recent Troy Police Department media releases.

Breaking and entries

Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, 5131 Rochester Road, Aug. 8-12, 11 p.m. to 7:55 a.m.: Employee advised the business had been broken into over the weekend. Suspect had used a rock to smash the rear door. Two laptops and a printer were missing from the business.

Credit, check, identity theft, other fraud

4000 block of Willow Creek, Aug. 11, 8 a.m.: Resident reported someone used his personal information to open five cell phone accounts in his name. Resident stated no one had permission to use his information. 

2000 block of Maple Road, Aug. 13, 5:05 p.m.: Complainant advised she received a collection call from Comcast stating she owed $400 for cable to an address in Detroit. Complainant advised she did not have an address in Detroit.

Drugs/narcotics

John R Road and Hamman, Aug. 13, 7:12 p.m.: Troy officer stopped a vehicle for speeding. The passenger in the vehicle was observed moving around in the vehicle. Officers suspected there were drugs in the vehicle. The driver admitted he had marijuana in the car and his medical marijuana license was expired. The passenger also had marijuana in her purse. Additionally, a pipe used for smoking crack was found in the glove box - which belonged to the driver. The driver was issued a citation for possession of marijuana and possession of narcotic paraphernalia. The passenger was cited for possession of marijuana.

Talbot and Hartland, Aug. 14, 9:56 p.m.: Troy Officers responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle. The driver was evasive with officer’s inquiring why she was in the area. The driver admitted she had marijuana in her purse. Officers found a baggie of marijuana, a pipe and rolling papers. The driver was issued a citation for possession of marijuana and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs

800 block of Lovell, Aug. 16, 3:49 a.m.: Troy officers responded to a complaint of a man slumped over the wheel. Officers arrived and the complainant advised she crashed into a vehicle in the middle of the roadway with its lights turned off. Officers made contact with the occupant of the vehicle and immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver. The driver, a 22-year-old from Troy failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. Breath test results were .19 percent. 

Larcenies

1000 block of Somerset, July 28 to Aug. 9, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Several residents in the apartment building advised items had been stolen from their storage lockers located in the basement of the building. Items stolen included: Craftsman tools ($1,200), Guitar ($350) and Yashica Camera ($200).

Great Pines Landscaping, 501 Stephenson Highway, Aug. 13, 10:10 to 10:43 a.m.: Complainant advised three Redmax blowers, two Redmax weed whips, two Redmax edger’s and one steel trimmer were stolen off the utility trailer.

Forestview Landscaping, 500 Stephenson Highway, Aug. 13, 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.: Complainant advised someone stole a $200 Redmax leaf blower while the crew was landscaping.

Home Depot, 1177 Coolidge Highway, Aug. 15, 11:15 a.m. to 7 p.m.: Complainant advised he parked and locked his bike to the bike rack while he was working. When he returned to get his bike it was missing. The Trek Bike is valued at $600.

Larcenies from autos 

Chuck E. Cheese, 740 John R, Aug. 13, 4:30 p.m.: Complainant advised she parked her vehicle in the lot. When she returned, she found the passenger window broken out of her 2007 Cadillac. Complainant advised her purse was missing which contained $500 in cash.

Bowl One, 1649 East 14 Mile Road, Aug. 14, 7:19 p.m.: Complainant advised she parked in the lot. When she returned, she observed her passenger window smashed out and her purse missing from the car. Her purse contained $175 in cash, credit cards and identification. 

Malicious destruction of property

6000 block of Niles, Aug. 13, 8:39 p.m.: Complainant advised someone drove over his mailbox valued at $100.

4000 block of Sutherland, Aug. 13, 10:37 p.m.: Complainant advised her vehicle was parked on the street when someone threw a brick thru the windshield. Damage valued at $1,000.

Minors and alcohol 

John R and Wattles, Aug. 16, 1:58 a.m.: Troy officers stopped a vehicle after observing it weaving in and out of its lane. The driver was detected with a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. The driver, an 18-year-old from Troy failed field sobrieties and was arrested for operating with a blood alcohol content of .02 to .07 percent. Breath test results were .04 percent. 

Retail fraud

Kohl’s, 500 John R Road, Aug. 12, 3:40 p.m.: Loss prevention advised the suspect was observed selecting cosmetics and concealing it in her coat. The suspect left the store failing to pay for the merchandise. Loss prevention stopped the suspect and recovered the merchandise valued at $66.50. The suspect, an 18-year-old from Hamtramck was arrested for retail fraud. 

JCPenney, 700 West 14 Mile Road, Aug. 15, 7:27 p.m.: Loss prevention officers advised the suspect was observed selecting an iPhone case and putting it in a plastic bag he was carrying. The suspect, a 16-year-old from Detroit left the store without paying for the case. Loss prevention stopped the suspect, recovering the case valued at $35. The suspect was arrested for retail fraud.

Miscellaneous 

5000 block of Breeze Hill, Aug. 12, 5:55 p.m.: Officers patrolling the area observed two solicitors talking to a resident. The solicitors did not have permits from the city to solicit. Both subjects were issued citations for soliciting without a permit. 

Mon Jin Lau, 1515 East Maple Road, Aug. 14, 1:20 a.m.: Officers responded to a noise complainant from guests at the Marriot Hotel next door to Mon Jin Lau. Officers warned the manager to turn the music down due to a noise violation. Two hours later officers responded to another noise complainant at Mon Jin Lau. Officers could hear loud music coming from the restaurant and subsequently the manager was issued a citation for noise violation.
