Drunken Driving, Driving Under the Influence Incidents: Sept. 7-10

The following information was obtained from the Troy Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following information about recent incidents of drunken driving and driving under the influence is taken directly from the most recent  media release. This information may be edited for clarity or style. Note: In Michigan, the Blood Alcohol Content legal limit is .08 percent.

Interstate 75 and Coolidge, 5:03 a.m. on Sept. 9, 2012

Troy officers stopped a vehicle on Interstate 75. They had observed the vehicle swerving and repeatedly crossing a lane marker, traveling ten miles over the speed limit and ten miles under the speed limit. The vehicle also had its left turn signal on. When officers approached the vehicle they noted the odor of intoxicants and marijuana coming from within. The vehicle was occupied by the driver and three passengers. All three passengers were passed out. Officers spoke with the driver who stated he had smoked marijuana about forty minutes prior to being stopped. When asked if there was any marijuana in the car, the driver laughed and said there wasn’t because they had already smoked it. The 24-year-old Flint man had bloodshot/glassy eyes and displayed very poor balance. He was arrested for “Operating under the Influence of Drugs” and “Driving While License Suspended”. A blood test was administered; results are pending.

Wattles and John R, 10:37 p.m. on Sept. 9, 2012

Troy Officers stopped a vehicle that was traveling 86 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone. When they approached the vehicle officers smelled the overwhelming odor of marijuana. The driver, a 19 year-old Hazel Park man, was arrested for “Operating under the Influence of Drugs”. A blood test was administered and results are pending.

Big Beaver and Rochester, 4:27 a.m. on Sept. 7, 2012

A Troy officer stopped a vehicle after observing it traveling without headlights on. The driver smelled of intoxicants, had slurred speech and glassy/bloodshot eyes. When she failed sobriety tests, the 31-year-old Pontiac woman was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated”. Breath test results were .22 percent.

Interstate 75 and Crooks, 6:56 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2012

A Troy Officer was dispatched to the area when a concerned citizen reported a suspected drunk driver that was weaving and driving onto the shoulder of Interstate 75. The vehicle was located and stopped. The driver, a 38-year-old Macomb male, had slurred speech, and an investigation revealed he was intoxicated. The 38-year-old was arrested and breath test results were .14 percent.

Interstate 75 and Rochester, 10:25 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2012

A Troy Officer was dispatched to the area after a citizen reported a suspected drunk driver northbound on Interstate 75. The officer located the vehicle and observed it swerving and crossing lane markers to the left and right. When the vehicle was stopped the officer noted that the driver smelled of intoxicants, had slurred speech and bloodshot/glassy eyes. The 47-year-old male from Pontiac performed poorly on sobriety tests and was arrested. A marijuana cigarette was found in his front shirt pocket. The driver was charged with “Operating While Intoxicated” and “Possession of Marijuana”. Breath test results were .20 percent. He has one prior drinking and driving conviction.

Big Beaver and Dequindre, 1:40 a.m. on Sept. 8, 2012

A Troy Officer observed a vehicle traveling with a right front tire that was flat and shredding away from the rim. The vehicle was stopped and the driver smelled of intoxicants. Following an investigation, the 21 year-old Clinton Township man was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated”. Breath test results were .17 percent.

Interstate 75 and 14 Mile, 2:25 a.m. on Sept. 9, 2012

A Troy Officer observed a vehicle that was unable to maintain its lane and was crossing over lane markers. The driver, a 56 year-old Flint man, smelled of intoxicants and had very bloodshot and glassy eyes. He failed sobriety tests and was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated”. Breath test results were .13 percent. 

Interstate 75 and Adams, 2:16 a.m. on Sept. 10, 2012

A Troy Officer stopped a motorcycle that was traveling at over 100 miles per hour on I75. An investigation revealed the driver, a 24 year-old Pontiac male was both intoxicated and in possession of marijuana. He was arrested for “Operating While Intoxicated” and “Possession of Marijuana”. Breath test results were .13 percent.
