Electronic Signs Cause Stir In Troy

Residents are upset that a number of large electronic signs have been installed on Rochester Road and other spots in the city.

TROY, MI — Business people, residents and Troy City Council members expressed concerns about about five recently erected 200 square feet electronic signs on Rochester Road and other prominent locations. Despite being allowed under the city’s ordinance, they complain that the signs will be a distraction to drivers and an eyesore, according to a C & G Newspapers report.

Councilman Dave Henderson brought the matter forward to propose a 180-day moratorium on issuing permits for ground signs exceeding 100 square feet, which was amended to be all signs. The council approved the moratorium 6-0.

“It’s very embarrassing,” said Councilman Ed Pennington. “We dropped the ball. We’re on it now.”
