Former KMart Corp. Headquarters In Troy To Be Developed
The property is reportedly "in the middle of a master-planning exercise."
TROY, MI — Keep your eyes on the empty former Kmart Corp. headquarters. The space on Big Beaver Rd. and Coolidge Highway has been vacant since the mid-2000s, but the property owner revealed development plans are in the works.
Nate Forbes, the managing partner of Forbes Co. (which owns the former Kmart Corp. headquarters lot as well as the Somerset Collection in Troy) was speaking at a University of Michigan/Urban Land Institute Real Estate Forum panel in Detroit when he announced the property is “in the middle of a master-planning exercise."
Forbes elaborated, “We feel the need in Troy for a real communal place, a central gathering spot, surrounded by some potential lifestyle and other-type uses complementary to Somerset." As far as a timetable, Forbes is aiming to share details in the next six to nine months.
