The Troy Fire Department responded to a gas explosion at the Fairfield Inn, which is under construction.

TROY, MI — The Fairfield Inn was the scene of a gas explosion, according to a news release. The hotel is currently under construction and was not occupied by guests during the incident.
The Troy Fire Department responded to a report of a fire alarm at the 4-story Fairfield Inn hotel (225 Stephenson Hwy.) on Nov. 17 at 1:56 p.m. Workers were installing a natural gas furnace when an explosion went off. Arriving firefighters immediately cleared the building of occupants and sampled the air for natural gas. Upon confirming there were elevated levels of natural gas inside the building, firefighters shut off the gas to the building and alerted Consumers Energy to respond.
One of the workers was injured in the explosion, and taken to the hospital by a co-worker before fire fighter arrived. His condition is unknown. Damage estimates are not complete at this time.
