Granite City Food & Brewery Opens Today, Donates Sales to Charity

The upscale family restaurant and microbrewery will be donating 5 percent of the first week's sales to the Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan.

Troy residents now have a new choice in upscale family dining at the , which to the public at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Troy Granite City Food & Brewery will be one in a chain of almost 30 restaurants spread across 13 states.

"It's just a great addition to the city," Troy City Councilman Dane Slater said Friday during a . "It's a welcome sight for an area needing this enhancement."

Founded in 1999 in St. Cloud, MN, the restaurant is a long-time dream of Michigan natives Steve Wagenheim, Dean Oakey and Rob Doran. The restaurant is known for its affordable, made-from-scratch cuisine and brewed-on-site ales and beers, including Duke of Wellington (and English ale) and Broad Axe Stout (an authentic English beer).

During Grand Opening Week (May 8-14), guests who visit Granite City Food & Brewery will receive a free membership to the Mug Club, which earns members 10 percent off of food, special beer tap offerings and other rewards. The restaurant will also donate 5 percent of all Grand Opening Week sales to the Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan.
