How to Celebrate Halloween in Troy

The city is filled with Halloween-themed events during the next few weeks.

Trick or Treat in the Trees

Whatever your costume, put it on and come on out to the Lloyd A. Stage Nature Center, where a nature center guide will lead you on a hike down the trails. You will learn about the enchanted woods, get some treats, and meet characters in costume.  Each child must be accompanied by an adult; Fee is $11 for non-members and $9 for members. There is no charge for the adult. The at-the-door fee is $13, but call the day of the event for availability at (248) 688-9703. Register at troynaturesociety.com.

The Spirit Hunter & The Skeptic

Do you believe in ghosts or are you a steadfast skeptic? Join investigative journalist Sandy Lyons and environmental analyst Robert Elmouchi in a point/counter point presentation featuring tales of ghosts and hauntings along with alternate scientific explanations. Sandy Lyons, author of "Michigan's Most Haunted" and "Colorado’s Most Haunted", will speak about her research on hauntings and what she has learned. Robert Elmouchi, founder of Paranormal Investigators Group, will present a scientific perspective and explain why it’s important to study alleged paranormal phenomenon.  Register online at troylibrary.info  or call the Technology Center at (248) 524-3542 to reserve your seat for this powerful program.

Halloween Bash at Big Beaver Tavern

Big Beaver Tavern has really outdone itself this year by hosting one of the premier parties in the Metro area, including a $300 top prize for the best costume, $200 for second, and $100 for third. Either way, it’s a great time for all.

When: Friday, Oct. 25, 9 p.m.
Where: Big Beaver Tavern (645 W. Big Beaver Rd., Troy)

Athens Theatre Company Haunted House

Only $5 per person.

When: Oct. 25-26, 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Where: Athens High School (4333 John R Rd., Troy)

Halloween at the Troy Historic Village

Visit “Scarecrow Row,” a row of family friendly scarecrows along the Village fence; trick-or-treat from building to building collecting candy & mini pumpkins provided by the Troy Garden Club; make a cool craft at Poppleton School; and enjoy cider and donuts as you visit with all of the Wizard of Oz characters.

When: Saturday, Oct. 26, 1-3 p.m.
Where: Troy Historic Village (60 West Wattles Rd., Troy)

Trick or Trunk

Trick or treating, parade, games and prizes. Free of charge.

When: Oct. 27, 2-4 p.m.
Where: First United Methodist Church (6363 Livernois, Troy)

Annual Fall Harvest Festival

The festival provides a free trick-or-treating alternative to families and includes a costume contest, face painting, carnival games, candy, hayrides, prize drawings, food and a photo booth. 

Admission is free, but some activities require tickets, which can be purchased onsite. Costume contests will be held for all ages and everyone is invited to wear family-friendly costumes. Due to the presence of young children, event organizers ask that attendees avoid scary and gory costumes.

When: Thursday, Oct. 31, 6-9 p.m.
