Kitchen Catches On Fire While Tenant Is Out To Dinner
The Troy Fire Department was called to the kitchen fire blaze in a 32-tenant apartment building.

TROY, MI — A kitchen fire ripped through an apartment in Troy while the tenant was out to dinner, according to a news release.
The Troy Fire Department reports that a man was cooking on his electric stove top when the power went out. He told fire officials that he turned the stove off and took his family to a restaurant. Meanwhile, the power was restored and when the man came home he discovered his apartment was on fire.
The Troy Fire Department received the report of a kitchen fire at the Charter Square Apartments, located at 2820 Charter, on Dec. 7 at 8:01 p.m. Arriving firefighters verified that all tenants in the 32-tenant building were outside and initiated fire control to contain the blaze to the apartment of origin with some minor extension into the attic space.

Damage estimates are incomplete at this time and tenants in 8 units of the building have been temporarily displaced, primarily because of smoke damage.
The City of Troy Building and Fire officials are returning to the scene on Dec. 8 to complete the investigation.
