Drunken Driving Suspect Says Last Drink Was In Mexico 48 Hours Ago

Police conducted a traffic stop on the 26-year-old man, who reportedly said he hadn't consumed alcohol since being in Mexico 48 hours ago.

TROY, MI — Troy police arrested a suspected intoxicated driver traveling on Rochester Rd., according to a police report.

The incident happened on Rochester Rd. - north of E. Square Lake Rd. - on Jan. 19 at 1:50 a.m. Officers initiated a traffic stop on a blue 2012 Ford Focus for a traffic violation and when speaking with the driver, a 26-year-old Sterling Heights man, officers noticed an odor of alcohol emanating from him, according to the police report.

Police say when asked, the man volunteered he was returning from a casino and he denied having alcohol there. He did reportedly admit to consuming alcohol 48 hours ago while in Mexico, according to police.

Police report he allegedly performed poorly on several sobriety evaluations and refused to submit to a Preliminary Breath Test. The man was arrested and transported to the Troy Police Lock-up facility, where he was read his Chemical Test Rights and agreed to take a breath test with reported results of .09%, according to police. The man was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol and Preliminary Breath Test Refusal.
