Man Uses A Fake Identity To Steal A Maserati From A Troy Dealer: Police

The con artist took Suburban Maserati of Troy for a ride.

TROY, MI — A man allegedly stole an $81, 900 2014 Maserati Granturismo from a Troy dealer using a fake identity, police say.

Police report that a man from Glenwood, Illinois, called Suburban Maserati of Troy at 1755 Maplelawn Dr. to buy the luxury car after seeing an Auto Trader ad. The deal was the man would pay $81,900 for the vehicle and $550 on top of that to ship it to Illinois.

Everything appeared by the books, police say. The man provided a photo copy of his Illinois driver's license and applied for, and was approved, credit to purchase the vehicle through Bank of America. The man arranged with the shipper to drop the Maserati off in a Walmart parking lot, explaining that his street was too small for the truck. The man took possession of the Maserati in the Walmart parking lot and drove off.

It was only after the transaction was complete that Bank of America contacted the dealership and informed them the buyer had fraudulently obtained the loan using another person's identity.
