The students envisioned a Tread Transforming Smart Car, a car that will be traffic, terrain, and weather aware. It uses specialized sensors that give information about driving conditions to an internal computer. The computer then would decide if the tires should be bald or treaded. This information could be sent to other cars in the area so they could also shift their treads to match the driving conditions.
The winning team includes fifth-grade students Siddarth Marthi, Sribharat Koripella, Henry Barton, Prashant Shankar, coach Jodi Martin and mentor Kenneth Barton.
