Judicial oversight committee says Troy judge may have signs of early dementia (detroitnews.com) — Troy’s 52-4 District Court Judge Kirsten Nielsen Hartig is facing a new judicial tenure complaint alleging cognitive decline that could affect her ability to perform her duties, on top of earlier misconduct allegations. She has been removed from criminal cases but still handles civil, landlord-tenant and small claims matters while evaluations and legal challenges continue.

Grounding straps remain focal point of deadly Michigan hyperbaric chamber explosion as preliminary exam continues (cbsnews.com) — Ongoing testimony in the case of a 5-year-old killed in a Troy hyperbaric chamber explosion is focusing on whether grounding straps were a necessary safety step. A Troy Fire Department deputy chief previously testified the blast was likely caused by static electricity, and the preliminary hearing is set to continue Tuesday.
   

3. Separate animal cruelty cases lead to charges against 2 Oakland County residents (fox2detroit.com) — An Oakland County man from Troy has been charged after authorities say a mixed-breed dog suffered fatal injuries consistent with being hit, while a separate Ferndale resident faces charges over two neglected German shepherds. Prosecutors emphasize they will aggressively pursue animal cruelty cases, and residents are urged to report suspected abuse to county animal control.
