TROY, MI β€” A Troy man is facing charges after beating a small dog, according to police.

Officers were called to an apartment complex on Coachman Drive where neighbors heard a dog squealing and were concerned the dog was being abused, according to police.

When officers arrived at the home, they spoke to the 32-year-old man, who admitted to beating his dog, according to police.

The dog, a small mixed breed that weighed roughly 30 pounds, had multiple injuries, according to police.

The dog was turned over to Oakland County Animal Control and taken to veterinary care, according to police.

The man was charged with cruelty to an animal and placed in the Troy Jail with $5,000 bond.
