• Man who fatally shot intoxicated firefighter resentenced in Oakland County (theoaklandpress.com) — A man convicted in a fatal 2021 shooting at a Troy gas station has been resentenced after an appeals court ordered a new trial over jury instructions on self-defense. He accepted a no-contest plea to voluntary manslaughter and now faces 42 months to 15 years, with credit for time already served, in a case closely watched in Troy and Oakland County. 
• 86 MSU graduates receive MSU Board of Trustees' Award for academic excellence (msu.edu) — Several Michigan State University graduates from Troy have earned the elite MSU Board of Trustees Award for maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA, including Nihal Bandla, Lourdes Merem, Nitin Niranjan, and Sophie White. The honor was presented at the Dec. 12 trustees meeting, and each student will also be recognized at their December commencement with a special graduation cord.
• Michigan House cancels $645M in state spending without Senate OK (themanchestermirror.com) — A Troy-based state representative played a visible role as Michigan’s Republican-led House budget committee moved to cancel nearly $645 million in previously approved state project funding, including grants for social services and cultural institutions. The move, made without Senate approval, sends much of the money back to the general fund and sets up a partisan fight over how those dollars should be spent going into 2026.
