Man assaulted during basketball game

A 32-year-old Sterling Heights man filed a police report Friday after he said he was assaulted at in Troy during a basketball game. The man suffered a cut on the back of his head and also near his mouth after a member of the other team repeatedly targeted him during the game, according to a Troy Police media release.

Counterfeit check cashed for nearly $5,000

An employee at Community Choice Credit Union reported that a counterfeit check drawn on a credit union member's account was cashed at another bank. The check was for $4,832.01.

Teen caught stealing lawn equipment

A resident of the 1000 block of East Maple called police after he saw a teenager pick up a neighbor's $400 backpack leaf blower from the neighbor's back yard and run off with it Tuesday afternoon.

The witness watched the teen run across Maple and into a yard, still carrying the blower. Several other teens were seen yelling at the suspect to "put it back," according to police.

Following an investigation and several interviews, the suspect was found in the bedroom of a home in the neighborhood, and the backpack leaf blower was found concealed in the back yard. The 19-year-old Troy man was arrested for larceny.
