Employee admits to stealing money from Sunglass Hut

On Sept. 5, officers arrested a 19-year-old Troy man for breaking and entering the Sunglass Hut where he worked on Aug. 28, according to a media release from the Troy Police Department. 

The man admitted to closing the business, but leaving an emergency exit door propped open. He then returned to the store through the door and stole money from the cash register, according to the report.

Woman loses more than $3k in international phone scam

A Troy woman received a phone call from someone she believed to be her nephew and then wired $3,258.13 via Western Union to a Peruvian prison, where she was convinced he was being held, according to Troy police.

The next day, the woman called her sister and learned her nephew is not in Peru. She then filed a report with Troy Police on Sept. 4.

A similar incident occurred on Aug. 30 when a Troy resident from a family member saying he was in London and had been robbed. The complainant later received an email from the family member saying his email account had been hacked and he was safe in the United States.

Suspected drunken driver found with narcotic paraphernalia in car

A Troy officer responded to the area of Interstate 75 and Adams Road Thursday evening after a citizen reported a suspected drunken driver swerving in all three lanes. The officer located the vehicle, observed it nearly rear-end a truck, then pulled the driver over, according to a media release from the police department.

The 57-year-old Flint man had slurred speech and difficulty keeping his eyes open. There was vomit on the front of the man's shirt, and he admitted to vomiting while driving and also taking prescription pain medication. Officers also found narcotic paraphernalia in the man's car.

The driver failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs and for possession of narcotic paraphernalia. A blood test was administered; results are pending.

Drunken driver admits to drinking "too much"

Troy officers responded to the area of Lakeview and Golfview early Friday morning after a security guard at an area business reported a suspected drunken driver. Officers located and stopped the driver, who smelled strongly of intoxicants and had a glazed look on his face, according to a media release from the Troy Police Department.

When officers asked the 28-year-old Troy man how much he had to drink, he replied, "too much," according to the release. 

The man failed sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while intoxicated. A blood test was administered and results are pending.

Vandals damage dozens of mailboxes in neighborhood

A woman reported discovering damage to her mailbox after hearing a loud noise outside her home the afternoon of Sept. 1. In total, 27 mailboxes were damaged in the subdivision.
