Parent Cited in Assault of Leonard Elementary Employee; Road Rage Prompts Loose Change Attack

officers were dispatched to on Monday evening after a parent reportedly pushed a Latchkey employee numerous times, according to a media release from the Police Department.

The parent had arrived to pick up her children from the Latchkey after-school program, but when an employee who was unfamiliar with the woman asked to see her identification, the woman "was insulted ... and refused to go to her car to retrieve it," according to the report.

The 43-year-old Clawson resident then grabbed her children and pushed the employee aside numerous times.

"Children at the school were crying," said Officer Andy Breidenich, public information officer for the Troy Police Department. "Losing your cool like that is an especially unfortunate thing to see during the holiday season."

School policy states that if the employee does not know the parent, he or she is required to ask for identification.

"The mother has to abide by school policy," Breidenich said.

The parent eventually came to the police station and was issued a citation for assault and battery.

Dog bites man's finger

A resident on the 2000 block of Denise was bitten by a dog around noon Sunday, according to Troy Police. The man was walking his own dog when a neighbor's dog ran up to them; the two dogs fought, and the man's index finger was bitten by the neighbor's dog.

Thieves break into neighboring homes

Two residents on the 2000 block of Kevin reported that their homes had been broken into Monday evening. Items reported missing include a safe, jewelry, Christmas presents, a laptop and some iPhone accessories.

Man steals 2 tablet computers from CVS

reported that a man had stolen two tablet computers shortly after midnight Tuesday. The man had asked to see one of the tablets, which was stored behind the counter. He then asked to see another. When the employee turned his back, the man ran off with both tablet computers.

The suspect is described as 6 feet tall, approximately 225 pounds, with crew-cut blond hair and driving a newer-model sedan. If you have any information, please contact the Troy Police Department at 248-524-3447.

Road rage victim's vehicle pelted with loose change

A woman driving near Big Beaver and John R roads Sunday afternoon reported that a vehicle pulled in front of her, causing her to slam on her brakes. She pulled around the vehicle and shook her head at the other vehicle's occupants, who then began throwing loose change at the woman's car. The car's paint was chipped in several places.
