Successful School Library Read-In Event Celebrates School Library Month with TSD Families
The Troy School District (TSD) is delighted to announce the success of its recent School Library Read-In event, hosted by TSD Media Specialists Toni Isaac, Lauren Henderson, and Christina Chatel, to celebrate School Library Month. Families gathered at the Troy High Media Center on Saturday, April 13, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to enjoy STEAM activities, crafts, and reading.
"We were thrilled to welcome TSD families to our School Library Read-In as we celebrated the joy of reading and the invaluable role of school libraries in our community," said Christina Chatel, Media Specialist at Boulan Park and Smith Middle School.
"It was heartwarming to see families come together, explore our fantastic library resources, and immerse themselves in books and STEAM activities, " said Lauren Henderson, media specialist at Hamilton Elementary.

Attendees were encouraged to bring their favorite books or select one available at the library. Every hour, attendees could listen to a mystery reader read aloud a picture book and watch a pre-recorded author visit from authors Salina Yoon, Derrick Barnes, Kate DiCamillo, and Jeff Kinney.
The Troy Public Library set up a booth to provide families with information about their services and events.

This event was inspired by the Michigan Association of School Librarians, which urged school librarians statewide to host read-in events on April 13, providing access to virtual author visits from Book Break. Attendees were invited to express why their school library was important on a dry-erase board and have their photos taken with their messages, which will be shared with Michigan Legislators on Library Advocacy Day.
“I was happy to host the Read-in event at Troy High to help spread awareness of the importance of our TSD media centers. I especially enjoyed reading what people wrote about how they valued school libraries,” said Toni Isaac, Troy High Media Specialist.
With an attendance of around 150 people, the School Library Read-In was a resounding success. It cultivated a love for reading and promoted the importance of school libraries in the community. TSD extends its gratitude to all who participated and helped make the event memorable.
