Athens Environmental Club Raises Money for Troy Nature Society

Members of the Environmental Club recently donated money to the Troy Nature Society (TNS) after holding a "pizza sale" to raise money earlier year.

“For two days a week during the month of January, we set up stations around the school and sold pizza to students after school," Environmental Club President Jennifer Park said. "We read about the Troy Nature Society, and many of us have visited the nature center, so we decided that the proceeds of $150 would be donated to TNS.”

Rachel Peterson, a Troy Athens science teacher and Environmental Club Sponsor, said she appreciated the students’ effort. “I’m pleased that the students choose to fund raise for the Troy Nature Society," she said. "This is a local organization that is providing wonderful programs for our community.”

TNS President John Ragan was recently invited to attend an Environmental Club meeting in order to accept the donation. 

“The Troy Nature Society would not be able to offer educational nature programs to the public without generous fund-raising efforts such as those of the Troy Athens Environmental Club," Ragan said. "We are very grateful for their donation.”

The Troy Nature Society is a nonprofit organization supporting the educational nature and science programs of the , a 100-acre preserve. The society’s mission is to provide resources and education to inspire the appreciation and preservation of nature.
