Troy Drunken Driver Gives Thumbs Up Before Driving Through Yards: Cops
The woman told officers she was drinking champagne before driving, according to police.
TROY, MI β A Troy woman was arrested after driving drunk through multiple yards before hitting a street sign last month, according to police.
A bystander approached a vehicle that was stopped for roughly 20 minutes at the intersection of Wendover Road and Paddington Drive at 2 p.m. on Nov. 22, according to police.
The driver of the vehicle, a 59-year-old woman from Troy, gave the bystander a "thumbs up" before slowly driving away, according to police.

The witness then saw the woman drive off the road and into multiple yards before hitting a street sign in the area of Lanergan Drive and Newgate Road, according to police.
Officers approached the woman and "immediately noted she was in an altered state," according to police.

The woman admitted to drinking champagne before driving, and then tested at a .219 percent BAC (blood alcohol concentration) on a preliminary breath test, according to police.
Officers arrested the woman and took her to the Troy Jail, where a Chemical Breath Test showed results of .266 percent and .279 percent BAC, more than three times the legal limit to drive under Michigan law, according to police.
The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was given a citation for operating with a blood alcohol of .17 percent or more.
