Troy Community Foundation awards over $11,000 in grants (candgnews.com) — Local nonprofits, school groups, and community programs in Troy are sharing $11,650 in new grants from the Troy Community Foundation, supporting youth, seniors, arts, beautification, and recreation. Funded projects range from food pantry support and meadow restoration to STEM initiatives and drug- and alcohol-prevention education for Troy fourth graders, plus expanded opportunities for residents with special needs and developmental disabilities.
   

2. Troy restaurant inspections find cockroaches, potentially hazardous ingredients (theoaklandpress.com) — Recent Oakland County health inspections found food-safety violations, temperature issues, pests, and sanitation problems at several Troy restaurants, though many issues have since been corrected. Residents can review up-to-date inspection reports online to see how specific establishments are performing and what’s being done to address concerns.
   

3. TJS Now Accepting Scholarship Applications for 2026 (nationaljeweler.com) — A major jewelry manufacturing symposium is coming to the Detroit Marriott Troy May 16–19, 2026, and organizers are offering scholarships that cover registration and hotel for emerging jewelry professionals. Students, interns, and early-career jewelers must apply by Jan. 5, 2026, and winners will be notified in February. Travel to Detroit is not included.
   

4. Hyperbaric chamber explosion: No charging decision by judge in 5-year-old's death (fox2detroit.com) — A high-profile court case continues over the fatal hyperbaric chamber fire at the Oxford Center in Troy, with the judge delaying a decision on whether employees and the CEO will stand trial on second-degree homicide charges. Testimony has focused on alleged missing safety equipment and prior staff warnings, and the preliminary hearing is now set to resume January 12 in Oakland County.
   

5. Oakland commissioners opt out of vote for financial disclosures (freep.com subscription) — Oakland County commissioners have shelved a voluntary financial disclosure plan and instead are asking state lawmakers for authority to mandate ethics reporting for county officials. A trustee from the Troy Democratic Club joined other residents urging tougher, faster reforms, arguing weak rules erode public trust. The outcome could eventually shape how conflicts of interest are handled for officials serving Troy and nearby communities.
