Troy Girls Soccer Excels on the Field and in the Classroom

The state championship girls varsity soccer team was also honored for its good grades.

The Troy High School girls varsity soccer team came home last month to a great report card and a proud city.

The City Council honored the Colts, who won the Div. 1 state title in a game against Grandville at Williamston on June 15, with a resolution at its meeting on Monday. The girls, captained by Jamie Hawkey, Alison Holland and Madison Hirsch, also scored highly in class, with a 3.6 team grade point average.

The roster also includes: Sydney Alexander, Michelle Babst, Cami Barnett, Brooke Bogdanovich, Addy Bouzide, Nadine Bratu, Jenna Cabelof, Phylisha Drayton, Grace Goodrich, Brittany Guitar, Natalie Longroy, Katie Luongo, Dani Mukomel, Kayla Porter, Liz Rhodes, Sarah Troccoli, Sara Wideman, and Erin Wrubel.

Head coach Brian Zawislak led a staff including assistant coaches Hank Thoenes, Stew Givens, Joey Franchini and Meghan Sermo and trainer Mike Sime at the podium on Monday.

The champions join fellow Troy champs from 1994 and 2003 as the best in the state.
