Troy High HOSA Team Wins International Awards

Troy High’s HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) team recently returned with many accolades from the International Leadership Conference in Dallas. This competitive conference took place from June 20-25, 2023 and welcomed over 12,000 students from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, American Samoa and China. Twenty-eight students accompanied team moderator Dr. Angie Griesmann to this year’s conference.

FINALISTS from THS were: Emily Baek (Medical Reading), Vikrant Vedapudi (Dental Science), Isabelle Deng (Prepared Speaking), Janhavi Tonge (Clinical Laboratory Science), Daniel Yang (Pharmacology), Daniel Xiao (Biomedical Debate), Jessica Wu (Biomedical Debate), Brenda Mao (Biomedical Debate), Jeffrey Kim (Biomedical Debate), Aanya Shah (Physical Therapy), Mark Long (Cultural Diversities and Disparities), and Timothy Matthew (Medical Math).

TOP AWARDS were received by: Ria Lattupalli (3rd International in Healthy Lifestyle), Fiona Samson (2nd International in Biotechnology, and Anusha Gupta (1st International in Human Growth and Development).

Incoming senior Aanya Shah also received the commended Barbara James Service Award and accumulated over 300 hours of service to her community over the last two years. In addition, Aanya is the 2023 HOSA State of Michigan President, the first time a Troy High student has been appointed to the top leadership position.

HOSA is a national organization whose goals are to promote physical, mental and social well-being, develop effective leadership qualities & skills and develop the ability to communicate more with people both inside and outside the organization. And Troy High’s chapter is undoubtedly headed for more accolades and success for the new school year.
