Troy High’s Activist Week will begin on Saturday, February 3rd and go through Monday, February 12th, ending with their Snowcoming Dance.
Troy High’s Student Government has chosen the charity On My Own, a non-profit organization that helps young adults with developmental disabilities find the tools, skills, connections and places where they can live independently. Started by parents who wanted a place for their children to succeed, On My Own has served the Detroit Area for 25+ years and is excited to be chosen as this year’s Activist Week recipient out of several very worthy causes. According to THS StuGo Communications Director Jayla Turner (’24) “We looked at several organizations, but On My Own quickly rose to the top of our shortlist ---we have several special education classes right here at Troy High--- these students are our classmates and our friends, and we have created a real culture of love from the entire student body by getting to know these students personally, including them in school functions, hosting Unified Sports and Unified games--we really show up and show out.” Continued Turner: “Our district and school motto is ‘Where Everyone Belongs.’ We work every day to create a WEB of support for our special classmates, and are so excited to raise money and awareness for a program that will one day help them become independent—this hits very close to home.”
And if home is where the heart is, Troy High’s Student Government is ALL IN for Activist Week with exciting fundraisers, spirit days, events and contests:
