Troy Museum & Historic Village to Host Civil War Days for Students

History will come alive for eighth-grade students all week long through history lessons, re-enactments and hands-on learning.

The Civil War will come alive for more than 1,200 eighth graders from Troy and Fraser middle schools who visit the during the week of May 14-18, from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Students participating in the annual Civil War Days will meet Abraham Lincoln, Sojourner Truth and an army physician.  They’ll try their hand at telegraphy and contra dancing, and practice basic military drills. They'll watch as costumed re-enactors provide an artillery lesson and explain camp life, topped off with a piece of hardtack for a quick snack!

“Civil War Days is an exceptional educational program that was developed in cooperation with eighth-grade teachers and experienced museum educators,” Loraine Campbell, Troy Historic Village Director, said. “We are grateful to the re-enactors from Historic Fort Wayne for their time and wonderful equipment and to our volunteers and presenters who bring these important historic figures to life for the students.”
