Troy Swimmers Take 7th Place at State Meet

Rohan Tangri, Zachary Chen, Troy Chen and Miles MacDonald propel the team to a 7th place finish at state finals on Saturday.

The Troy High School boys swim team placed seventh overall at the Division 1 state swimming meet at Eastern Michigan University on Saturday with a total of 92.5 points.

Here are the highlights:

200 medley relay: Troy's Rohan Tangri, Zachary Chen, Troy Chen and Miles MacDonald took 12th place, finishing in 1:38.70. Only seven hundredths of a second separated them from 11th-place Zeeland, and 22 hundredths of a second from 13th-place Ann Arbor Skyline.

200 yard IM: Sophomore Troy Chen took seventh place with a time of 1:55.68, arriving at the finish line a second after Grand Haven's Takua Kobayaski and beating Ann Arbor Skyline's Matt Orringer. Freshman Zachary Chen took ninth place after Orringer with a time of 1:57.18.

100 yard butterfly: Miles MacDonald, a senior, took fifth place with a time of 51.77; Troy Chen followed close behind with a time of 52:27, tying Saline's Michael Bundas for sixth place.

100 yard backstroke: Senior Rohan Tangri nabbed eighth place at state finals with a time of 54.35, less than half a second behind seventh-place Tom Walls of Saline.

400 freestyle relay: The team took seventh place in the relay with a time of 3:13.05, beating out Saginaw Heritage by 0.3 seconds and trailing Canton by 0.55 seconds.
