Troy Youth Assistance Looking for Volunteer Board Secretary

Troy Youth Assistance is looking for a volunteer Secretary for the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.  A time commitment of approximately 6 – 8 hours per month would enable the candidate to attend, record and distribute minutes of the monthly Executive Committee and Board meetings (3rd Thursday each month at 6pm); notify members of the respective meetings; prepare and send out correspondence at the direction of the Board. This person must have good writing and word-processing skills, be well-organized, have a passion for helping children and their families, and be discrete with confidential information.  The full job description is on the Troy Youth Assistance website at www.troyyouthassistance.org.

Troy Youth Assistance works to prevent and reduce juvenile delinquency, child abuse, and neglect through community involvement. Troy is one of 26 independent YA offices in Oakland County that gets referrals of youth from the schools, the police department or parents. There is a full-time caseworker who works directly with families to address whatever issues are presented, and he/she will refer to other community agencies as needed. With the exception of the caseworker and a part-time secretary, all programs and support are provided by volunteers. Most of the programming is in prevention: mentors, skill-building scholarships, parenting education programs, youth involvement activities, and an annual Youth Recognition Event. There is also an active fundraising committee.
