TSD Partners with SME for PRIME Launch

One of the largest roadblocks facing the business community is filling manufacturing jobs with qualified talent. With help from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Troy High School (4777 Northfield Pkwy, Troy, MI 48098) is helping solve the problem with an innovative program.

The Southfield-based SME Education Foundation’s PRIME Launch (Partnership Response in Manufacturing Education) event will take place Friday, October 6, beginning at 9:00 am, which happens to be National Manufacturing Day. Three new manufacturing rooms at Troy High will be unveiled and will join the existing state-of-the-art Auto Technology Lab that has been successfully operational since 2017. There will be opportunities to interview students, SME PRIME Executives, and Michigan lawmakers. U.S. Congresswomen Elissa Slotkin, Haley Stevens and State Representative House Speaker Joe Tate and State Rep. Sharon MacDonnel are expected to be in attendance.

As has been front and center in the recent UAW strike, manufacturing jobs are the life-blood of Michigan’s economy. Unfortunately, the United States is projected to have 2.5 million unfilled manufacturing jobs by 2030. SME PRIME® (Partnership Response In Manufacturing Education) builds custom manufacturing and engineering programs in high schools across the country, providing a non-traditional pathway to lucrative careers such as Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing, Robotics and 3D Printing.

SME PRIME is located in 93 schools across 23 states, serving 9,000 students, and 91% of PRIME seniors pursue manufacturing post-graduation.
