Keith Elementary Celebrates 50 Years

Generations of alumni, students and staff, recently visited Walled Lake Schools Keith Elementary to help mark the school's 50th anniversary.
 
During the celebration, students and former students, Makenzie Ryder, Craig Bellinger, Ali Iaquinto, Kelsy Schultz, Jake Haver, Andie Wolfe, and new kindergartener Bradley Bellinger, all spoke about their past, present and future experiences with the Keith Elementary community.
 
Principal Phillip Pittman reminded staff and students that when the school opened 50 years ago, on August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered one of the most important messages in our nation’s history during the March on Washington as he declared his vision of hope with his “I Have a Dream” speech.
 
“In many ways, the opening of Keith Elementary represented the hopes and dreams of a community, as well," he said. "This community has dreamed of Keith being a place where children learn and grow and thrive in a culture of caring, a place where teachers and support staff are honored and valued as the most important professionals in the world, a place where we have the motivation and courage to be leaders in our field, continually evolving in our practices to best meet the needs of each and every student."
