Sylvan Lake Physician Faces Narcotics Charges

A physician practicing out of a Sylvan Lake urgent care center faces charges, following an investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET).

According to a sheriff's office press release, an investigation was launched in June after authorities received complaints from patients that Dr. Mohammad Amin, practicing out of Healing Hands Urgent Care, was prescribing controlled substances for non-medical purposes, including Schedule 1, 2, & 3 narcotics. 

The release indicated that undercover NET officers seen by Dr. Amin were prescribed controlled substances with no medical necessity. Authorities executed search warrants at the Urgent Care and the 59-year-old physician's Bloomfield Township home; he was arrested Oct. 28 and arraigned at the 48th District Court in Bloomfield Township Oct. 29, on felony and misdemeanor charges.

A pre-trial exam is scheduled Nov. 18. 

“It is sad when a trained healer veers from that path and their hippocratic oath and becomes a pill mill that enables addiction and the destruction of lives,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in the release. “I congratulate our undercover team that put together this long and complex case.” 

NET is a multi-jurisdictional drug task force headed by the Sheriff’s Office in partnership with 13 local police departments.
