West Bloomfield Business Brings Stars, Fans Together

Mike Gold says his goal is to create events that are fan-friendly, clean and fun.

In late July, West Bloomfield resident and business owner Mike Gold brought a group of eight hugely popular "tween" celebrities to Freedom Hill Amphitheater in Sterling Heights.

Through Celebrity Events Group, Gold showcases stars from Nickelodeon and Disney Channel shows like Wizards of Waverly Place, Good Luck Charlie and Victorious in unique events that allow fans to get up close and personal with their idols.

"It's for fans, it's clean and it's fun," said Gold, who grew up in Southfield.

Celebrity Events Group shows, he said, are more than just a 5-10 second look at a star during an autograph session. The shows give fans an opportunity to learn about the actors, through Q&A sessions, trivia contests and behind-the-scenes stories. During the Tween Stars Live Tour 2013, a group of fans even get up on stage and act out scenes from the shows.

Gold said he got into the celebrity business (he also operates Celebrity Placement Services) after hanging out with friends who were well-known local athletes. People started asking him to get his friends to their events. After making those connections locally, Gold expanded his business to give it a national reach.

"I just love seeing the faces of people and how they light up when they see a celebrity," he said.

The business has taken him all over, working with celebrities from Mary Matalin and James Carville to reality television stars. Still, the father of two young girls chooses to live and work in West Bloomfield.

"We have the ability of creating events anywhere that I am," Gold said, "but this was a great place to raise our family."
