West Bloomfield Resident Performs with Sweet Adelines

Kay Kastens and the chorus will be featured in "Great Lakes, The Musical" on Oct. 26 in Sterling Heights.

Great Lakes Chorus of Sweet Adelines International, including West Bloomfield resident Kay Kastens, will perform "Great Lakes, The Musical" on Oct. 26, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., at the Sterling Heights High School Performing Arts Center, 12901 15 Mile Road.

Kastens serves as chorus associate director and lead section leader.

The show of Broadway tunes, under the direction of Sylvia Karpinsky, will include special guest pianist David Gillingham, Central Michigan University music composition professor and director of the MountainTown chorus of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

"Some people have called me the 'Michigan Victor Borge', since I have stolen a number of licks from his old stuff," Gillingham said. "It's basically a novelty act combining music and comedy and the story that I tell the audience is mostly true."

For tickets, call Deana Fisher at 586-321-1140 or visit www.glcsing.org.

The chorus recently scored its highest regional winning score in its 54-year history and will compete with other regional winners in Baltimore, MD, in November 2014. Open rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 8771 15 Mile Road, Sterling Heights.
